Our Behavior Consultation Program

Helping Hands offers a unique, comprehensive continuum of consultation services to school districts, families, and agencies. We are known for helping out with students who present with highly challenging behavioral needs. Helping Hands has a professional network of expert behavior consultants, special educators and paraprofessionals, many of whom are Board Certified Behavior Analysts. We work closely with administrators, staff and families to coordinate and enhance educational programming for the students we serve.

Through our school consultation program, we serve elementary, middle and high school students with complex needs. Through our agency and adult consultation program we serve adults and their families with highly effectively managing challenging and aggressive behaviors as well with social skills development and community integration practice.

We carefully tailor our services to the specific needs and concerns of each person we serve. Our plans encompass the person’s whole life. We enjoy developing highly individualized and detailed behavior and educational plans. Our cost-effective school consultation services increase the competencies of school staff and include training on the most up-to-date best practice approaches to assessment, education, and treatment.

Our consultation services include educational and behavioral program design, curriculum development, systems of data collection and inclusive educational support. We provide clinical assessment and behavioral evaluation services as well.

All of our behaviorally based services are always customized to meet the needs of the students we serve first while considering the needs and respecting the critical input of their classroom teachers, school staff, families as well as agency staff. We work in collaboration with each student’s team to provide the best supports possible. We work collaboratively while offering full support to school and agency teams to address the complex needs of all the individuals we serve.

Autism Education & Consultation

We serve individuals of all ages. In relation to children, we develop programs designed specifically for each child utilizing the principles and methodology of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Our comprehensive home, community and school-based programs incorporate scientific principles of ABA that have been proven to be effective in the acquisition of skills across all developmental domains. Applied Behavior Analysis is the practice of using researched and scientifically based strategies to teach desired behaviors and skills. ABA uses the basic principles of learning to design and implement effective instructional methods to not only decrease behavior that is problematic or disruptive, but to successfully teach functional and age appropriate skills. ABA interventions place a strong emphasis on reinforcement procedures, enabling learning and development in a consistent, structured and positive environment. We apply these tools in developing appropriate academic, social, communication and daily living skills.

When it comes to serving Adults with Autism and Asperger syndrome, we tailor each plan to improve their quality of life. Whether it be by increasing community integration opportunities, helping to train for a job, decreasing problem behavior, improving social skills and developing a social life, we work closely with the individual and his or her family and or residential and day program staff.
